POWER Machinery says the downturn is good for mine vehicle and equipment manufacturers.
Ken Christensen, managing director of Power Machinery says this is the perfect time for companies to finally find the time to have a good, long and hard look at how they run their business and the shop floor and get their factory in ship shape.
Christensen says when orders were going through the roof, many machine shops did not have the chance nor the time take a good look at their process to see what could be don better, more efficiently and by consequence, more cheaply.
Power Machinery, which supplies brand name metalworking machines, says it promotes clean, lean and safe working practices. It says it is all about quality and cost-saving.
Christensen says many people think that the two concepts cannot co-exist, but in reality, when you buy top quality equipment you are speeding up your process, cutting down on your waste and in the end saving time, effort and money.
The company says mine vehicle manufacturers should be keeping machine shops financially lean, ergonomically keen and output-wise mean. He says take the time now, when things are a bit slow to reengineer and reoptimise your work areas and production flows, in the long run you will save money, time and perhaps even a workers’ life.
